Creative Assistant Director
As creative assistant I worked along side the Creative Director and the Lead Mural Artist from Performing Statistics
“Freedom Constellations”
My position:
I lead workshops, managed, organized, as well as instructed (mural installation, painting/spray painting, stencil illustrations, wood sanding/cutting, and audio recording/scripting).
For this project we worked firsthand with multiple artists; from videographers to mural artists, we created a mural right across VCU Police department. I assisted black youth in creating a symbolic future without youth prisons and threatening police. This mural has a virtual reality segment that highlights the flourishing world without youth prisons.
Creative Director
As Project manager and Creative Director I worked along side my Embodiment Director María Acosta,
“Unmasking the Hero”
My Position:
I illustrated 2 comic books, enforced guidelines, maintained program's schedule/curriculum, supported my team, and lead/evaluated workshops.
The program was titled "Unmasking the Hero".
Teens created a physical comic book that introduced positive youth development through the eyes of becoming a superhero or anti-hero (not villain). We explored the skills of storytelling, group leadership, character development, time management, and a sense of responsibility, all through fun and flexible course work. We encouraged leadership, creativity, and team building. It was a fun environment to explore their strengths, and question/redefine their weaknesses or "kryptonite".
This program was led by artists, storytellers, and psychologists who are trained in trauma-informed care, complex trauma, leadership development, and youth engagement.
Interning at performing Statistics
As an intern I not only assisted the Creative Director but I also assisted the Project Manager, Trey Hartt, and the Engagement Director, Gina Lyles.
“A World Without Youth Prisons”
My Position:
I did tasks and projects related to the design and implementation of workshops and exhibitions. I also assisted in organizing, errand runs, as well as art instruction (photoshop work, acting, painting/spray painting, stencil illustrations, and wood sanding/cutting.
As the summer came to a close I was invited along to help set up a panel room for one of the national tour runs in Hampton, and help spread Performing Statistics message.
For this project we worked with multiple artists; videographers, painters, poets, and photographers to create and produce a music video, as well as a sculpture exhibit. I assisted black youth in creating a symbolic future without youth prisons and threatening police.
leading in clubs and organizations
I took part in being one of the first set of students at Thomas Jefferson High School to take part in the ‘Windows from Prison” project.
“Windows From Prison”
We worked under Stuart Harnsberger and Mark Strandquist at 1708 Gallery to create work that would be shown in our community to address the wrongful Justice System. People who were locked up in jail were asked “If you could have a window in your cell, what place from your past would it look out to?”
Then we as young artists, drew and wrote letters back. These images and stories were then blown up on banners and publicly exhibited to spark dialogue and action around criminal justice issues.
